FAQ

Answers to the procurement and technical questions lab coordinators ask most — manufacturer comparisons, replacement parts, lead times, bulk ordering, and model identification.

The HS 8/3 is a countertop/table-format teaching model (rather than a stand-mounted display piece), generally more compact and often used where desk-side demonstration matters more than a full anatomy-lab display setup.
SOMSO's HS-prefixed line ranges from simplified externally-focused hearts up through highly dissectible versions showing internal chamber structure, valve position, and coronary vessels — the exact part count and level of internal detail varies by specific HS number rather than following a simple "higher number = more detail" pattern. If you're comparing several SOMSO options, check each model's listed part count and which internal structures (septa, valves, coronary arteries) are called out specifically, rather than assuming similarly-named models are interchangeable in detail level. Let us know your teaching level and we can point you to the SOMSO heart that matches it most closely.
3B167 is a traditional 5-part didactic reproduction designed for teaching with removable sections and a systole-position valve display. EZ28 is a 3D-printed reproduction of an actual dissected specimen, preserving real anatomical variation and the great-vessel bases as they appeared in the source dissection. If your program wants an idealized teaching model versus a realistic dissection reference, that distinction should guide the choice.
EZ28 covers external cardiac anatomy and great-vessel bases; EZ29 extends the specimen to include the distal trachea, carina, and primary bronchi in relation to the heart (useful for teaching mediastinal relationships); EZ30 is dissected internally to show chamber structures, including the superior vena cava's entry into the right atrium. Choose based on whether you need external anatomy, regional/mediastinal context, or internal chamber detail.
It's a standalone teaching piece — a natural-size female fetus model showing the exposed heart, thoracic/abdominal cavities, umbilical cord, placenta, and fetal circulatory shunts (ductus arteriosus/venosus), separating into 2 parts. It doesn't require a separate torso or obstetric phantom to be useful on its own for fetal circulation instruction.
Depends on construction — models with distinct molded chamber/valve sections are more likely to have individually available replacement components than a single-cast heart. Send us the model number and which section failed, and we'll confirm.
3D-printed specimen lines run on a different production process and schedule than SOMSO's cast models, and can vary more by specimen availability. Confirm current lead time on the specific item before committing to a semester-start deadline.
Yes — we regularly build combined quotes spanning heart, torso, respiratory, and urinary collections so a full internal-systems lab setup ships together under one purchase order.
Yes — we support repair and warranty solutions for SOMSO anatomical models generally, including heart and circulatory models purchased elsewhere. If a chamber, valve, or vessel section has been damaged, contact us for an assessment before assuming full replacement is necessary. Review our Repair and Warranty Support here.
Model numbers are typically stamped on the base or mounting stand (HS-, MS-prefixed for SOMSO; 3B- for 3B Scientific; EZ-prefixed for Erler-Zimmer). If unreadable, send us photos showing part count, scale, and whether valves/coronary vessels are visible, and we can help narrow it to the matching model.
