Nervous System Models - FAQ

Answers to the procurement and technical questions lab coordinators ask most — manufacturer comparisons, replacement parts, lead times, bulk ordering, and model identification.

Nervous System Models
They're cross-listed intentionally — a brain model is central nervous system anatomy, so it belongs in both categories depending on how your program organizes its curriculum (neuroanatomy-specific vs. brain-specific study). You're not being shown duplicate/miscategorized items; it's the same product serving two legitimate teaching contexts.
BS 26/1 is a 2/3 natural-size physical model showing the right side of the sympathetic trunk with the cardiac and pelvic plexus in three dimensions — useful for demonstrating how autonomic pathways actually run through the body relative to organs, not just a labeled diagram. If your course needs spatial/anatomical relationship teaching rather than a schematic overview, the physical model is the better fit.
It's a multi-piece boxed set — cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae, atlas, axis, and a cervical vertebra with spinal cord and nerve endings, each individually labeled. It's built for structured identification exercises across a full vertebral/spinal-cord series rather than a single demonstration piece, so budget it and store it accordingly (it needs a case, not just shelf space).
They legitimately span both — these models show the neuromuscular junction, which is where nervous and muscular systems physically meet. If your program teaches innervation/motor control, they belong with nervous system materials; if you're teaching muscle ultrastructure specifically, the same models fit equally well in Muscular System Models. Expect to see them cross-listed rather than miscategorized.
The W13319 is a physical anatomical model for gross nervous system anatomy; the W13419 is an 11-slide histology set (cerebrum, cerebellum, spinal cord, nerve sections) for microscopic study. They serve different lab contexts — gross anatomy vs. histology — so don't substitute one for the other in a curriculum that needs both.
EZ3 is a 3D-printed dorsal dissection specimen showing nervous system structures in the context of a real dissected head/neck/thorax/abdomen region — it's a realistic dissection reference, not a simplified teaching model. Programs often pair it with a standard schematic nervous system model (like BS 27) rather than using it as a sole teaching tool for introductory courses.
Depends on construction — models with named separable sections (like the BS 25 brain, or the QS 54 case set with individually labeled pieces) are more likely to have replaceable components than single-cast models like BS 27. Send us the model number and which piece failed, and we'll check availability.
3D-printed specimen lines typically run on a different production schedule than SOMSO's cast models and can carry longer lead times for less-common specimens. Confirm current timelines on the specific item before committing to a semester-start deadline.
Yes — we regularly build combined quotes spanning nervous system, brain, spine, and sensory-organ collections so a full neuroanatomy lab setup ships together under one purchase order.
Yes — we support repair and assessment solutions for SOMSO anatomical models generally, including ones purchased elsewhere. If a component, mounting, or removable section has been damaged, contact us for an assessment before assuming full replacement is necessary. Review our Repair and Warranty Support here.
Model numbers are typically stamped on the base or mounting board (BS-, QS-, or 3B-prefixed, or EZ-prefixed for Erler-Zimmer). If unreadable, send us photos showing the represented structures and part count, and we can help narrow it to the matching model.
